ECR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP
The ECR Professional Development Workshop will consist of three modules:

  1. Building Strong Leaders: Thursday 1 December 9:00am – 12:30pm.
Location: Curtin building 216, room 118 (see campus map)

This workshop will begin with a critical discussion about what it means to be a leader. We will be discussing the role of Emotional Intelligence in leading collaborations, prioritising projects and networking with colleagues and potential employers. Participants will walk away with tangible tools and techniques to be put into practice immediately.
  2. Creative Thinking in the Workplace: Thursday 1 December 1:30pm -5:00pm.
Location: Curtin building 216, room 118 (see campus map)
We can often get locked into certain ways of thinking and can struggle to consider other ways of looking at problems and situations, for instance in meetings with our co-workers and collaborators or as group leaders. This training will present participants with simple but effective ways to develop thinking, decision making and problem solving and will also look at “De Bono’s Six Hats”. Creative thinking is just like any other skill, it can be practiced and developed.
  3. Conversations at the Right Wavelength: Friday 2 December 9:00am – 12:30pm.
Location: Curtin building 405, room 205 (see campus map)
This workshop will cover how to handle difficult conversations and some aspects of conflict management. We will learn to better understand the participants in conversations, including ourselves, to resolve conflict through communication skills and to plan for successful outcomes.

ADDITIONAL WORKSHOP:  How to benefit from and contribute to Open Science (Friday 2 December 1:30pm – 5:00pm)
Location: Curtin building 405, room 205 (see campus map)
This workshop will cover the ideas behind open science, including open access, open data, and open source software. We will learn how to share our science outputs beyond just publishing papers - sharing data, code, and methodology. Participants are invited to bring data and code that they are willing to share, and we will workshop ideas about what to share, who to share with, and how. This workshop will also identify ways in which we can benefit from the open science of others.

The modules can each be attended separately or in any combination. Catering will be provided each day.
