Professor Steven Tingay named WA Science Ambassador of the Year

Science and Innovation Minister John Day congratulated Professor Tingay, as well as the five other award recipients and the 2012 Western Australian Science Hall of Fame Inductee, all of whom were honoured today at the 11th annual Western Australian Science Awards presentation ceremony.

“Professor Tingay is an internationally-renowned researcher who has shown dedication to promoting the significance of the SKA project and the benefits it will deliver to the people of Western Australia,” Mr Day said.
“Professor Tingay has led a number of programs that encourage young West Australians to consider a career in science and technology.
“He is also the co-instigator of ‘Illgarijiri – Things Belonging to the Sky’, an art-meets-astronomy project that brings together indigenous Australians and astronomers to explore different perspectives of the Universe.
“The Western Australian Science Awards provide an opportunity to recognise the people whose passion and commitment to science research, engagement and education is making a significant impact.”
